Departure Tax
When traveling abroad, be mindful of the Departure Tax that you will have to pay before leaving the island or country. Not all places include the Departure Tax on the ferry or airline tickets. Depending on the destination, Departure Tax can cost as low as $20.00 or as high as $65.00. Cash, credit or debit cards are acceptable forms of payment. Residents usually will pay a smaller fee.

Hi Africah. Your post may be short but it also important and I hope everyone that read it took heed. A few years back I almost missed my flight coming from Antigua because of the departure tax. One would think because I did not have money on me that I could simply go a nearby ATM machine and make a withdrawal. Tried that and guess what, the ATM was down. It was the last flight heading back home, time was running out and I REALLY needed to catch that flight. In the end I had to sell my watch to a security guard for pennies on the dollar so I can pay the departure tax. I learned the valuable lesson of redundancy that day for all I had were my credit cards. Always find out ahead of time the amount of departure tax and have at least that amount in cash. You never know what might happen. Good post Africah.
