The Mine Shaft Cafe: Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands
I arrived just in time to enjoy my dinner with a beautiful sunset in the background. Mine Shaft Cafe located in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands is an open-air restaurant with panoramic views that showcases the natural beauty of the island. The restaurant was spacious, comfortable and it was divided into two main areas. The bar and the restaurant.
Upon entering into the Mine Shaft Cafe, there was a multi-functional area that was similar to a social room. There were people seated at the bar while listening to upbeat music. The changing lights illuminated the room. It rotated from colorless to yellow, blue and then green. I thought that was pretty cool. Lounge chairs added to the overall ambiance of fun and entertainment.
Thomas, a regular at the Mine Shaft Cafe, stated that he comes here often with his friends to hang out and to watch sports competitions on the big screen TVs.
After serving the last drink, I was greeted by the friendly bartender. He handed me a menu and began mixing the signature drink. It was called the Hurricane Punch. What a process!
First off, the bartender rang a bell, put on a construction hat and then lowered a bucket holding three bottles of liquor from the ceiling until it was within reach. With two bottles in his hands, the bartender mixed orange juice, lime juice, rum, passion fruit juice and grenadine. The Hurricane Punch was a yellowed colored drink that was topped with a slice of orange and a cherry. It’s rumored to knock people off their feet. However, I requested that my beverage have a little bit of alcohol instead of its usual generous portion. The Hurricane Punch tasted like a fusion of fruits and it was delicious. Next, I went to the seated area of the restaurant.
The panoramic views were gorgeous, and the sunset was beautiful. The white drapes were tied up to allow patrons the maximum enjoyment of the spectacular views of the ocean and other parts of Virgin Gorda. The sunset was a brilliant array of colors. Some of them were purple, pink and orange. The waiter handed me a menu, and I ordered a highly recommended dish, the BBQ Rib Platter. Although, usually served with french fries or curly fries; I substituted the sides with mixed vegetables and a baked potato.
Yummy! The BBQ ribs were really delicious. It was bursting with a plethora of herbs and seasonings that was topped with a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. The ribs were cooked to perfection. They were soft, succulent and meaty. The zig-zag design on the potato was cute. After biting into the ribs, I understood clearly why this dish is so popular.
Overall, my dining experience at the Mine Shaft was superb. The service was impeccable, and the food was excellent.
