Baltimore Inner Harbor: Baltimore, Maryland
At the Baltimore Inner Harbor, there were lots of fun things to do! Located in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, the harbor is a landmark that has been a part of the community for hundreds of years. The seaport is rich in history, culture and lots of delicious seafood!
When I arrived at the harbor, the city was full of life. There was a lot of traffic and people walking around chatting excitedly about where they will explore next. Others were standing in groups looking at a map. Law enforcement officers were everywhere maintaining the safety of the area and giving directions to tourists. Since I was driving, I circled looking for parking, and then I realized that unlike New York City, there wasn’t parking available alongside the sidewalks. However, there were parking lots with rates based on the length of time your car parked there.
This parking rate was a reasonable deal because after leaving the parking lot, in less than five minutes I was at the Baltimore Harbor. There was an instant view of historic ships anchored in the calm waters. The smell of fresh seafood serenaded the air as I walked by a variety of restaurants. There were signs and pictures of crabs, clams, and fish. With the combination of the scents of the food and the photographs, I was tempted to place an order for a meal. However, I continued exploring the area.
Across the still waters were tall buildings that resembled a city environment. It resembled a picture perfect postcard. On the Baltimore Harbor, there were a variety of stores that were located both on the outside and the inside of the shopping area. When I went inside the mall area, there were restrooms, additional eateries and of course clothing and souvenir shops. The two-floor air-conditioned building was a refuge from the blazing hot sun. On the second floor, the shaded outdoor seating was available for people who wanted to enjoy the scenery while consuming their meal.
Additional attractions included Ripley’s Believe It or Not, in which there was a huge dragon at the entrance. There was also a steel ball that rotated in a fountain of water with Ripley’s name engraved on it. The ball looked cool. There was a line of families who were waiting to purchase tickets to go inside the National Aquarium. There was also a water taxi service that sailed from one end of the Baltimore Harbor to the next. There were a five-story Barnes and Nobles Book Store for those of you who love to get lost in a good book. Live entertainment from local bands performed familiar tunes that got people out of their seats and on to the outdoor dance floor. The atmosphere was vivacious.
After walking around for a bit, I had to try one of Baltimore’s famous crab cakes! My goodness, it was yummy!! The crab cakes were plump, round and delicious. I also ordered mussels paired with garlic bread and of course a large bowl of clam chowder. Yummy! The seafood at the Baltimore Harbor had certainly lived up to its name. I admit that indulging in scrumptious seafood was a great way to bite into Baltimore.
Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Baltimore Harbor. I recommend visiting this place in the spring or summer seasons so that you can enjoy the great outdoors!
