Cinco de Mayo: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
Cinco de Mayo held at Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands was a fun and lighthearted fundraiser event.
The event featured pet owners who dressed up their dogs in sombreros with a Mexican shirt among other costumes. Although, there were a lot of Chihuahua’s, other dogs of different breeds were in attendance as well. One of the highlights of Cinco de Mayo was the Chihuahua Race. The crowd gathered around the doggy race track to watch the dog’s race. Ultimately, Katy was the fastest runner, and she won the race! The prize was a two-night stay at Hotel St. Croix for her parents.
It was rather hilarious to watch because some dogs were in it to win it, while others either decided at the starting line that they no longer wanted to race again or simply stopped and had a seat midway the competition. Then there was those who decided to run in the opposite direction of the finish line. Either which way the crowd cheered loudly for each competitor.
At Cinco de Mayo there was also musical entertainment from the band Flipswitch. The Lead Singer Rita sang mainstream songs. Some people danced, sang along or just grabbed a beer and enjoyed the company of their friends.
There was a taco station, beer/liquor station and there were sombreros that were for sale at vendor booths. Considering that this was a fundraiser, a portion of the proceeds will go towards providing backpacks and other school supplies for students who are attending public school.
Overall, Cinco de Mayo was loads of fun!
