Queen of the Mountain: Mt. Hood, Northern Oregon
Do you enjoy the Great Outdoors? I sure hope so because I love the outdoors and there are a lot of fun activities to do at Mount Hood! At Mount Hood, there was spectacular weather and a dynamic boom of visitors who were all eager to do one thing; hike to or from the top of the mountain.
Mount Hood is a famous mountain in Northern Oregon that offers recreational activities all year round. In the winter, people go skiing, and in the spring, summer and fall seasons visitors can go hiking. Not only does this mountain draw the attention of tourists who love the great outdoors but it captured the eye of Hollywood on many occasions.
Movies like “The Shining” and “Hear No Evil” were filmed at Mount Hood. Despite its popularity on the big screen, that was not my reason for wanting to go there. Personally, the thought of hiking from the top to the bottom of Mount Hood breathed an opportunity for me to explore and conquer a whole new challenge. However, once I arrived, it seemed less appealing to hike Mount Hood elevated at 11,250′. Therefore, I took the ski lift that took me from the bottom of the mountain to the top. On my way up, beneath snowboarders and hikers also seemed to enjoy their time at this historic landmark.
A short ride on the ski lift took me from the bottom of Mount Hood to almost the top. The view was amazing. I could see trees for miles, the resort, and of course a close-up look at Mount Hood in its entirety. Vanilla ice cream on an ice cream cone resembles the look of this mountain during the fall season. It was dirt at the bottom with pure white snow at the top.
That’s right; there was snow on the top of the mountain although the temperature was 80 degrees. I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers while playing in the snow. I was not cold at all. Slowly, I hiked from the top of the mountain to the bottom. On the way down, I saw tourists taking pictures, teenagers snowboarding, and people were skiing. As for me, I was enjoying the fresh mountain air. Surprisingly, there was also two portable bathrooms midway down the mountain. I wasn’t expecting them to be there, but they were.
After completing my hike, I toured the legendary Timberline Lodge. There were elaborate paintings and decorations in the lobby and lounge area. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. I sat on a big comfortable couch and sipped a cup of hot chocolate and hung out with my friends. In the back of Timberline Lodge, there were hotel rooms for those who wished to stay for a few more days.
By the end of the day, I had accomplished my goal not once but twice on Mount Hood. If you can remember, this is the place where I first learned how to ski. Skiing on Mt. Hood Meadows Ski & Snowboard Resort: Mt. Hood, Oregon
I once skied down the mountain, and now I conquered it on foot. Therefore, I earned my new title as Queen of the Mountain! For all you ambitious and adventurous people, Mount Hood will be a perfect place to visit.
