Kansas Music Hall of Fame: Lawrence, Kansas
The Kansas Music Hall of Fame was filled with excited fans, musicians from the 1960’s, and lots of fun. The Liberty Hall Amphitheater in Lawrence, Kansas was the perfect place to hold the event.
The musical sound bounced off the walls and the acoustics was amazing. There were several bands that were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame. However, one of the most memorable performances was by the 1960’s era band, Morning Dew!
The crowd roared and rushed to the stage when Morning Dew was introduced by the Master of Ceremonies. Fans were dancing, singing along and taping the performances on their cell phones and video cameras. The people in the balcony were bobbing their heads to the music while rocking their red and black Morning Dew Band t-shirts. Of course, I had one too and in my opinion the shirt was fashionably cool.
The energy from the crowd was electrifying. The young and old enjoyed the songs and everyone was having a good time. Occasionally, there were eager fans that ran up to the stage to take their picture while Morning Dew was performing in the background. Generally, people were thrilled to be reunited with their favorite band. Their eyes beamed with excitement as they watched Morning Dew perform for the very last time.
Morning Dew played several musical selections underneath the colorful spotlights that were in constant movement above the stage. On the left side of theater, there was a large projection screen that showcased a slideshow of the band members when they recorded in the 60’s. The slideshow featured their album covers as well as fun candid photos of the band.
For many in the audience it brought back memories. Morning Dew recorded their albums with the Roulette and Fairylands Labels. The band was popular in the mid-western states during the 1960’s.
