Dorothea Bay: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
At Dorothea Bay, the sounds of the ocean waves resembled a gentle melody that without warning can cause your mind to drift into a place filled with memories, hopes and dreams. One of the reasons why is because this is an underpopulated bay occupied with nothing more than the beautiful luxury called mother nature.
The palm trees lined the shoreline. Sporadically, the sea grape trees were throughout Dorothea Bay. There were endless layers of rocks, pebbles and sea shells that were washed ashore over time. I picked up some of the stones and after examining them for a while; I realized that just like the ocean the rocks also has an untold story. It is a story about the unspoken journey of where it began and distance it traveled before arriving at what seems to be its final destination at Dorothea Bay.
There was a consistent breeze that was driving the ocean waves to collapse on the shore. Despite the tropical temperature, I was very cool. The combination of the windy weather and the shade from the palm trees made this the perfect place to sit and relax. There were beach chairs, tables and wooden benches that placed throughout the grassy areas of the land.
There wasn’t much sand at Dorothea. However, the little that was there, it was white, grainy and it had some seashells throughout it. On the far left end of the bay, there were small boulders nestled there. On the opposite side were more palm trees. In the middle part of the ocean closest to the shoreline, was a white buoy that was stationed there while floating in the aquamarine water. Some waves came in three rows before stretching out on the shore. Dorothea Bay was pure serenity.
In comparison to other beaches that boasts its flamboyant and welcoming beauty, in its little way Dorothea is a luxury too. The atmosphere plays on the strings of life that methodically causes one to reflect on the joyful memories of the past, wash away the obstacles of the present while simultaneously igniting the flames of passion needed to pursue the goals for the future.
Overall, Dorothea Bay has a lot of character, and I enjoyed every moment of being immersed in it.
