Constitution Beach: East Boston, Massachusetts
What a lovely day to go for a stroll at Constitution Beach! The atmosphere was very welcoming and there was plenty of things to do there. It is well known for being a family oriented beach that didn’t quite exist until 1952. This smoke-free, man-made beach is located in East Boston, Massachusetts.
When I arrived, the sunny weather changed and it became cloudy and overcast. Ironically, Bostonians who were picnicking or having an outdoor birthday party seemed to be un-phased. Their celebrations continued as their invited guests trickled onto Constitution Beach. Some of them were under the gazebo, while others brought tents for shelter, beach chairs and picnic blankets.
So what did this active beach have to offer? To my surprise there were a lot of options. There was a tennis court, handball court and a baseball field that were all occupied at the time. For the younger age group, the brightly colored playground was open for the children to play. Believe it or not, The 1st Lt. Louis E. Porazzo Rink also known as the Porazzo Memorial Skating Rink is located at Constitution Beach.
Additionally, there were concessions stands that sold Italian ice, chicken fingers, french fries and refreshments. The fresh water sprinkler to rinse off after going for a swim was convenient and so were the clean public bathrooms.
Partially parallel to the ocean was a wall that featured plaques that educated the public about the sea and land animals that dwelled at Constitution Beach. Some of the Coastal Birds are the Herring Gull, the Great Black-backed Gull and the Cormorant. The Cod, Haddock and the Bluefish are some of the Ocean Fish that occupies the calm waters of the beach.
The sand on the beach was very course and grainy. Mixed in the sand was a combination of pebbles, seashells and any particles that washed up on the shore. Overall the sand was well maintained because there was not any trash, glass or any forms of littering. Stacked neatly on the sand were kayaks that were yellow, blue, pink, orange and green. The ocean waves were grey, calm and shallow.
Although, I spent my time walking and enjoying the ocean breeze, I would recommend this beach to anyone who is athletic, wants to stay in shape or want to have a fun family day!
