2016 Macy’s Holiday Windows: New York, NY
There are so many fun things to do during the Holiday Season! In addition to Christmas parties, events and festive concerts, one of my favorite things to do are to check out the Holiday Window displays featured in the over-sized windows of the major department stores. One of my favorite presentations was at Macy’s!
They were all beautiful. One of the first windows that I encountered featured two female mannequins fashionably adorned in red evening gowns with substantial red Christmas ball ornaments that were hanging everywhere. The male mannequin was wearing a red tuxedo jacket with black pants. The sheer red curtains in the background added a holiday flair to this classy display.
At the next window, there were intricate white lined designs that formed into a leaping reindeer. I am assuming that was Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer because a mini Santa Claus was standing nearby. The concept for this window was one of their most creative yet simple displays. Thus far, I was having a blast.
The next window was very youthful! The mannequin resembled a teenager wearing red tights, a blue and white striped dress with a stunning yellow jacket over it. In the background, there were bright, colorful sculptures.
A colossal storybook, surrounded by books piled high in a library with young children gathered around as their teacher read a Christmas story to them. There was also a large picture book with Santa Claus or “Father Christmas” on one of the pages.
Maintaining the Holiday Spirit, the next window was a young child who was writing Santa Claus a letter in her bedroom. A large scroll that said, “Dear Santa” represented the floor that was under the bed, chess, desk and child. The overall concept of this window was beautiful. The neighborhood building with lights beaming through the windows was the background.
Naturally, another one of the Macy’s Holiday Window Displays included the charity such as the Salvation Army. Standing next to a Christmas tree was a skinny man dressed in a Santa Claus costume. He was holding a tin cup for a passerby to put in their money or donations. Although this was just a display, you can usually find charities standing outside the entrance to the department store collecting donations to help families in need during the Holiday season.
Additional displays included a golden reindeer head with the Santa’s Little Helpers standing on top of each antler while holding gifts. Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus was standing next to a blue and white tree that had families in each small window. There was an interactive window that told crowd participants if they were “Merry,” “Jolly,” “Naughty” or “Ho-Hum.” When I placed my hand on the window, the machine lit up and stopped at Jolly. LOL, Jolly is how I was feeling during this time of the year.
Overall, I had a fabulous time checking out the Macy’s Holiday Windows display. The Macy’s Holiday Windows is an enjoyable family activity for locals and visitors. Just be sure to dress in layers because it is usually cold during this time of the year.
