Miracle on Main Street: St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands
Celebrating the Christmas season in downtown Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands is one of the biggest highlights of the year.
Be prepared to have fun because Charlotte Amalie comes alive through fun-filled events such as the 23rd Annual Miracle on Main Street! The event, hosted by the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism and the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce.
Hundreds of people filled the streets to capture irresistible deals on jewelry, perfumes and specialty items that will make great gifts for the upcoming holiday. This night is particularly special because usually, Main Street shuts down every day at 5:00 pm and sometimes opens up per the schedules of the cruise ships.
However, for Miracle on Main Street, businesses remained open up until 11:00 pm. The enticingly great deals lure shoppers as they make a last minute effort to purchase gifts to put under their Christmas tree.
Before I went on on a shopping spree, I joined the hundreds of people who gathered around the waterfront to watch the annual Boat Parade! This event is spectacular to see because there are some of the world’s most beautiful mega yachts showcased in the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. Decorated with Christmas lights, ornaments, and trees the boats looked very festive. The colorful reflection from the decorations glowed on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. It was wonderful.
Afterward, I went to the “Guavaberry Christmas: Revive Our Culture Christmas Fair” at the Emancipation Gardens. All of the decorated park trees had golden Christmas lights and underneath them were over 70 vendors who had several products for sale. There were local arts and crafts, hand-made jewelry, baked goods including variations of freshly baked tarts, sweet bread, cakes, and a lot more delicious treats.
Some of my favorite vendors were the Bordeaux Farmers, which sold fresh fruits, vegetables and a variety of bush tea.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and that is what led me to check out the beautiful tennis bracelets showcased at Beverly’s.
Of course, if you are interested in gorgeous hand-made items, De St. Thomas Lucies Loosies had, and picturesque resort wears dresses worn for an elegant or casual occasion.
There was beautiful necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that adorned the table that was all made and designed by Artist Arlene Wiltshire.
After I completed shopping for Christmas gifts, I continued walking around Main Street. At almost every corner, the rhythmic tunes of holiday music filled the air.
At Miracle on Main Street, event goers danced to the music of their favorite bands. There were performances by Top Notch, St. Thomas All Stars Steel Orchestra and the Ulla F. Muller Panatics, to name a few. The instrumental talents of the members of the bands were fantastic and very entertaining.
The beautiful town of Charlotte Amalie serenaded with the Christmas Spirit in which everyone seemed to have been in a happy mood!
I had a blast at Miracle on Main Street. I hope to see you there next year!
