Tickles Dockside Pub: St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands
The open-air restaurant of Tickles Dockside Pub in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands is perfect for enjoying breakfast, lunch, and dinner while gently being caressed by the sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. Casual, comfortable and relaxed are words I would use to describe the atmosphere — the panoramic views of the aqua blue ocean, the marine dock, and Water Island; can be viewed from any table in the restaurant.
Some chairs and tables are stationed on the sidewalk outlining Tickles Dockside Pub. Although the canopy provides shade, the sun can still peak through depending on what time of the day it is. The interior décor resembles a pirate ship. There is a giant steering wheel from a boat, a life-size one-legged pirate who sits above looking down at the bar and the dark wooden décor resembles the ship.
When I arrived at Tickles Dockside Pub, I was seated at one of the outside tables. Dining outside is usually my preference. The friendly staff greeted me and handed me a menu. The menu featured breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some of the delectable dishes to choose from for the breakfast section of the list included Silver Dollar Pancakes, biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs and a variety of omelets. “The Lighter Side” consisted of oatmeal, muffins and grapefruit and yogurt.
The lunch menu featured different categories. There are appetizers like conch fritters, jalapeno poppers, and nachos supreme. There is a variation of burgers as well. My personal favorite is the “Tickles Burger.” It’s cooked just right and paired with warm toasted buns, crisp lettuce, and fresh tomatoes with the option of fries or a garden salad. The other lunch categories are Soup & Salad, Sliders and Wraps, Platters, Slim & Trim and Pasta. There is also a section for drinks on the menu. I had a virgin pina colada. It was tasty and refreshing!
Since I came just in time for dinner, I took a particular interest in that section of the menu. There were a variety of options under the categories of Chicken, Meat, Seafood, Pasta, Soup & Salad, Slim & Trim and of course dessert. Shortly after I placed my order, the waiter arrived with a great big smile and put my food on the table.
The Grilled Chicken Salad was piled high on the plate. The chicken was juicy and tender. It was cut in long neat strips and was sitting on top of a bed of fresh lettuce, thin slices of onions and thick slices of tomatoes. It was pleasantly light and delicious. I added honey mustard dressing, and that enhanced the flavor all the more. Yummy!
Next out was the Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich! The chicken sandwich was crispy and packed with flavor and spices. I was almost tempted to remove it from in between the warm buns, fresh lettuce & tomatoes and eat it all by itself. The sandwich coupled with delicious golden french fries that I decorated with lots of ketchup was very delectable.
The BBQ Steak with roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables was mouthwatering. Not only was the aroma tempting but the food was thoroughly satisfying. The sweet BBQ sauce on the seasoned flat iron steak was the perfect combination. The steak was well done, yet juicy and filled with lots of flavors. My taste buds tantalized with every bite of the BBQ steak, and my tummy welcomed it gladly. The roasted potatoes and mixed steamed vegetables were the perfect addition to this meal. After completing my dinner, I had dessert.
Dinner was topped off with the Lovin Spoonful Chocolate Cake. The warm chocolate pudding that sat between the moist chocolate cakes was very delicious — the cake drizzled with a sweet raspberry sauce added to its overall décor. Additionally, I also had the bread pudding. It was a fusion of flavors. The dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, and rum raisin bread pudding all added to the uniqueness of this dessert.
Before I wrapped up my dinner at Tickles Dockside Pub, I had the fantastic opportunity of meeting Chef Arlindo Vanterpool. He is a very skilled and experienced cook.
Overall, I had an excellent time dining at Tickles Dockside Pub!
