Oktoberfest! Samuel Adam’s Brewery: Boston, Massachusetts
I had a blast at Oktoberfest celebrated at the Samuel Adam’s Brewery in Boston, Massachusetts. Oktoberfest is an annual celebration that is recognized, and it initially began in Germany. Oktoberfest is also known as a Beer Festival.
The atmosphere was lively when I arrived at the Samuel Adam’s Brewery. There were people everywhere, chatting excitedly about the Samuel Adam’s Brewery Tour that was about to begin. A new tour occurs every 45 minutes, and it was a first come first served basis.
Although the line outside was long, it moved rather quickly. Before I knew it, I was inside the brewery showing my ID to an employee while receiving a stamp on my hand that read “Samuel Adams.” I dropped some money in the donation bucket that is for the benefit of local charities and went on a self-guided tour of the lobby area.
It was like a small museum. Some of the exhibits showcased bottles of a variety of Samuel Adam’s Beers brewed, sold and were a financial success. Banners were hanging from the ceiling with the names of the beers as well. Some pictures hung on the wall that showed the different phases of the business over the years.
Samuel Adams Brewery postcards were available. I filled one out and deposited it into the mailbox to send to my family and friends. I thought that was very cool. There was also a bar with bottles of Samuel Adams Beer on the shelf. Visitors were allowed to stand behind it and take pictures.
Afterward, the Tour Guide arrived, and the tour officially began!
The tour was very informational. The key focal points were the history of the Samuel Adams brand. It was very interactive. We first stopped at the Barrel Room. There were barrels of malt and hops that are used to make the beer available, and I was allowed to taste and smell them. Cascade, Chocolate Malt, Caramel Malt, Pale Malt, and Hallertau Hops all were unique.
The tour continued into the Sam Adams BrewHouse. The open-air space had barrels of beer and large equipment used to store the beer. Thus far, this was a great learning experience. The Tour Guide shared a lot of facts and told funny jokes.
Afterward, I went to the beer tasting! I tasted up to five beers. They were all generally delicious. The beers that stood out the most were the Octoberfest and the Pumpkin Batch. The Octoberfest was sweet and had a thick malt character. The Pumpkin Batch was a combination of spices and pumpkin. The tour guide also shared some food pairings that compliments the beers as well.
The Sam Adams glasses distributed for the beer tasting was mines to keep as a souvenir!
Here are a few tips about visiting the Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston. You must be the legal drinking age to do the tour, and you need to present a valid state ID or passport to prove it. Don’t go on an empty stomach because you can drink as much as beer as you like during the tasting. Find out the details of the tours/events because you may have to call ahead and reserve your space while others may be free.
Overall, the Oktoberfest at the Samuel Adams Brewery was loads of fun!
