Magic Ice: St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands
Step into Magic Ice, an enchanted ice gallery that is located in downtown Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. Yes, you’ve read correctly. I did say an ice gallery that is on a tropical island with weather that is 80 degrees and above.
That explains why I was wearing shorts, a tank top and a pair of sandals, as I entered into Magic Ice. Luckily for me, the friendly staff provided thick leggings, gloves and a coat to put on prior to going inside the ice gallery.
Wow! I was totally awe struck as I walked out of the lobby and followed my tour guide into this exquisite winter wonderland. Not only was there an instant change of temperature that immediately dropped from 80 degrees to a frigid 28 degrees; but the world class ice sculptures were nothing short of being amazing.
I was instantly surrounded by beautiful ice sculptures of all kinds. Each exhibit was meticulously designed with much attention to the most intimate details. All of them were created out of a combination of snow and ice. The sculptures were illuminated with pink, green, blue or purple lights. It added a unique touch to each sculpture and a majestic flair to the atmosphere.
The life size ice sculptures were also fun and interactive. There was a throne that was fit for a king and a queen. Since I was an ice queen, at least for the moment, I sat on my throne!
There were candlelit chandeliers, an aquarium with tropical fish and a shark swimming in the depth of the ocean. It was fun to get up close and personal with a great white shark.
As I continued on my tour, I also had a chance to meet Bob Marley who was playing his guitar and Blackbeard the Pirate of the Caribbean! Standing tall, were the market ladies who had a display of fruit for sale, and of course there was Queen Mary. She led the slave revolt on St. Croix in 1878. Shortly after that slavery ended. To date, Queen Mary is considered a local heroine and can be seen perfectly sculpted at Magic Ice!
Overall, there were many more incredible exhibits to see. However, one that really stood out was the ice bar. The entire bar from the counter to the shelves were carved out of ice. Unbelievable! Like all of the ice sculptures, I have never seen anything like that in my life.
There were visitors, who were drinking and socializing at the bar. It was hilarious to see that because quite frankly, it was freezing inside the gallery. Towards the end of my tour, I ordered my drink, chatted briefly with the bartender and took one last look around this magical place before I exited and walked back into reality.
My toes were grateful to be serenaded with the sun. I would recommend wearing closed up shoes to keep your feet warm before going on the tour. I would also recommend to be prepared to be swept off of your feet with this enchanted ice gallery.
Magic Ice is truly a unique attraction! I hope that you’ve enjoyed this trip as much as I did.

The story on Magic Ice is truly magnicent, great job Aficah! I will visit there too,
Wow Africah, you gave such a wonderful description on Magic Ice. It sounds very welcoming and I’ve made plans to visit the maginicent Ice Palace. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
With freezing temperatures going on across the U.S. only you Africah could find the one place in the Caribbean (of all places) that captures this effect. Your blog as usual was well versed, descriptive, and catapults the reader into a scene from the Disney movie Frozen. I truly enjoyed reading it (as well as seeing you sitting on your throne of ice). Long live the Ice Queen!
