The New Year’s Eve Ball Drop: Times Square, New York
“Three, Two, One.Happy New Year!” Screamed millions of revelers that welcomed the New Year at the annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop at Times Square in New York City! This event is a nationally televised event that attracts people from all around the world.
Mayor Bill de Blasio flicked the oversized light switch, and the ball began to drop. Thousands of confetti paper blanketed the ski. It resembled a colorful snowstorm. Each confetti was unique because it had the New Year’s resolutions of thousands of New Yorkers hoping to make changes in their lives for 2016.
Before the actual event, the excitement filled the chilly air as revelers from all over the world stood there patiently waiting for the clock to strike midnight. Although it was 40 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel like it was 30, people secured their spots in the heart of Times Square 16 hours before the big event. While braving the cold, some dressed in layers, while others brought blankets and thermos to keep warm.
“This is my first time seeing the Ball Drop,” said a tourist who was visiting from Russia. He continued, “This is a once in lifetime opportunity, and I am glad to be here.
Similarly, many revelers agreed with him, especially a ten-year-old girl who stated that this was the best birthday present her parents ever gave her.
Another reveler stated that she was from Australia and attending the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop was a Christmas gift from her
