Princess Charter Tour: Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands
My day began at Gun Creek Dock. I assure you the reflection of the trees were mirrored in the creek but there were no guns in sight. The sunrise was beautiful and in the distance I saw Princess Charters cruising on the aqua blue waters towards the dock. When it arrived, I was greeted by Captain Kinky who helped me on the boat and my island hopping tour officially began. My first stop was Oil Nut Bay.
Located on the eastern peninsula of Virgin Gorda, lies a secluded island named Oil Nut Bay. It can only be accessed by helicopter or by boat. It is well known for its luxury villas and its family oriented community that is nestled on what seems to be a private island. Not only was the dock surrounded by natural coral reefs, but crystal clear waters, and the lush green palm trees added an elegant flair to the atmosphere.
Smiling brightly was my Tour Guide Stephanie as she greeted me when I arrived to the dock. We hopped in a cart that was decorated with military colors and off we went exploring Oil Nut Bay! The tour included the visitor’s center, the recreational area by the pool, the beach, the lengthy out door table that can seat many guests, and the views from the villas. Since the villas were all occupied, I didn’t have a chance to look inside of them. However, the views of the Caribbean Ocean and of the resort was majestically beautiful. After the tour, I headed back to Princess Charters and my next stop was Saba Rock Resort.
Saba Rock is by far one of the smallest islands I have ever visited. I literally walked around the entire island in less than 20 minutes. What does this little rock have to offer? There is a gift shop that sells souvenirs of all sorts, a restaurant/bar and rooms by reservations only if you wish to stay overnight. There is a man-made beach on this island. However, Prickly Pear Beach is nearby if you wish to go swimming in a more natural setting. It is only accessible by boat.
According to some of the locals, Saba Rock is a great place to have lunch and relax for the day. After completing my self-guided tour, I enjoyed the ocean breeze while sipping on a virgin mango pina colata. It was colorful and delicious. Afterwards, I headed back to Princess Charters and my final stop was at Fat Virgin Restaurant at Biras Creek Resort.
The tropical theme of the décor of this ocean side eatery was visually appealing. At Fat Virgin Restaurant there were colorful picnic tables that filled the patio of this tiny restaurant. Red, blue, yellow, purple, pink and green were the solid colors of the picnic tables. Shade was provided by the beige canopy with the Fat Virgin Restaurant and the logo on it. For the tables that were closer to the ocean, there was a grassy hut covering that provided shade as well.
The food was delicious! I ordered a curry chicken roti that was lightly peppered. It was filled with chicken, potatoes and seasonings of different sorts. It was neatly wrapped in pita bread and was accompanied with a tropical salad and a sweet mango chutney dipping sauce. One word to describe my lunch, YUMMY! Would I recommend this dish? Absolutely! Additionally, the staff was friendly and accommodating.
As lunch came to an end, I boarded Princess Charters for one last time. There were a lot of laughs and lively conversations on my way back to Gun Creek Dock. To book a tour, call (284) 443-5400.
