Niagara Falls: Ontario, Canada
What an exquisite wonder, I whispered to myself as I walked closer towards the Niagara Falls! I was awestruck at this magnificent landmark that lies on the international border of both Ontario, Canada and New York State, United States of America. Niagara Falls was so amazing to be claimed by one country. Therefore, it was claimed by two. As a result of this union, the southern end of the Niagara Gorge was eventually created.
Niagara Falls comprises of three waterfalls that are united once they flow into the Niagara River. They are the Bridal Veil Falls, American Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls. My tour began with the Bridal Veil Falls; this is the smallest waterfall out of the three. Bridal Veil Falls is on the American side. Luna Island separates Bridal Veil Falls from the other waterfalls. As a result, there is a significant walking distance from Bridal Veil Falls to the American Falls and an even greater distance to the Horseshoe Falls.
While on my scenic walk, there were hundreds of people who were either taking pictures, sitting on the benches that had the magnificent view of the Niagara Falls or going “Waterfall Hopping” a term used to describe walking from waterfall to another. There was a lush green lawn that stretched for miles in the park, and the streets featured transient and parked cars that were timed by a paid meter.
To my surprise, there were horse and carriage buggies for those who wanted to feel extra special and go on a romantic or personalized tour. For safety reasons the police station was nearby, and there were policemen on bikes who shared in-depth directions to unknowing tourists. Additionally, there were also colorful maps/signs and in the backdrop were several restaurants and hotels. Niagara Falls was, by all means, a very lively attraction.
I arrived at the American Falls, and it was a beauty. The waterfall is approximately 100 feet high and 1,060 feet wide. At the bottom are large boulders that added a uniqueness to it that distinguishes this waterfall from the other two. Located on the left side or downriver from the American Falls is Rainbow Bridge.
There were a lot of people who were on the Rainbow Bridge getting a close-up view of this peaceful landmark. Both pedestrians and cars are allowed on Rainbow Bridge. From where I was standing, I placed a quarter in the coined scenic binoculars, and I was able to see the American Falls at a closer view as well. Despite how one may choose to see the waterfall, I assure you that it will be fun. Goat Island separates the American Falls from the Horseshoe Falls.
Afterward, I continued to the biggest waterfall at Niagara Falls, which is the Horseshoe Falls. The height of this waterfall is approximately 180 feet and 2,600 feet wide. Not only was the size of this waterfall huge but it was the closest waterfall to the land. The mist vertically rises and maintains its height while surpassing the actual breaking point of the waterfall itself.
As I approached the Horseshoe Falls, the drops from the mist began to wet my clothes. It was rather refreshing especially since it was a sweltering day. From that perspective, I was able to see the mass water rapidly and powerfully moving towards the drop. Once it dropped, it disappeared into the mist and was never to be seen again until it hit the base and entered into the Niagara River. It was amazing!
I stood there for a while watching the Horseshoe Falls.
It was something serene about being this close to it. It was also mentally and spiritually liberating. Niagara Falls is one of the many creations of God, and it seemed to take away negative energy. Overall, it was a very serene and peaceful moment. Nearby was the two-floor gift shop. It sold every possible souvenir imaginable including Canadian honey, candy, and cookies all bearing the label of Niagara Falls, Canada. Naturally, I bought the Canadian honey, and it is very delicious in tea.
Overall, Niagara Falls was a fascinating trip!

This blog post is great.. I enjoyed reading it and recapturing the memory of my own experience when I visited Niagara Falls.
You’ve mentioned, “While on my scenic walk, there were hundreds of people who were either taking pictures, sitting on the benches that had the magnificent view of the Niagara Falls or going “Waterfall Hopping” a term used to describe walking from waterfall to waterfall. The park was filled with a lush green lawn that stretched for miles and the streets were occupied with transient and parked cars that were timed by a paid meter” . . I found this to not only be descriptive but also very true because you don’t necessarily have to be in the water to enjoy the view. . its eye-catching alone to watch.. Niagra Falls is deff a sight to see.
My favorite line from your blog post was when you mentioned, “It was something serene about being this close to it. It was also mentally and spiritually liberating” This is because I always felt there is some kind of spiritual meaning behind water.. it’s like a mysterious thing..
