Beef Island, British Virgin Islands is a small, cozy and peaceful place that is on the East End of Tortola. The atmosphere is very different from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Road Town in Tortola, which is also known as the Capitol of the British Virgin Islands.
Most islands in the Caribbean region are accessible by ferry, airplane or a personal charter. However, what makes Beef Island unique is that in addition to those means of transportation listed above, you can also drive there!
I was picked up by my tour guide from Road Town and 45 minutes later we arrived to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge that connects Tortola and Beef Island. Usually, it is a 15 minute drive but I stopped and took a few pics along the way. Once we crossed this bridge, my tour officially began.
My first stop was the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport. This is the main airport that provides flights for the entire British Virgin Islands.
My next stop was Trellis Bay. It is a small town that has a few amenities and it is a short walk from the east side of the airport. There is a market that sells fresh fruits and vegetables, a restaurant with a few tables and a bar, a coffee shop and a place to purchase local arts and crafts. There is also Trellis Bay, a beach with calm water and soft sand.
Located west of the airport, is a cool little hide away called Long Bay. This represents nature and its natural beauty in its purest form. There are no beach amenities, moorings, hardly anyone swimming in the bay and a few houses in the surrounding area. Long Bay is a great place to bask in the sun and read a good book. That concluded my tour of Beef Island because Long Bay was my last stop.
Overall, Beef Island was a great place to be if you want to have a relaxing weekend in a serene and low key hide-away.
